The Outer Worlds 2 - Praetor

The Outer Worlds 2 is a first and third person sc-fi action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment. I had the pleasure of working as an Environment Artist/World Builder on The Outer Worlds 2 and this is a show case of the work that I did in the Praetor region.

Praetor's orbit puts it entirely in the gas giant's shadow at all times, leaving the planet in a state of perpetual night with a giant eclipse in its sky. Praetor represents the dark underbelly of the Protectorate's utopian society where the architects quickly realized they would need to house most of their heavy industry away from the population to maintain an idyllic facade.

I worked with area designer JL Ottmann to bring the large Scrapper camp from blockout phase to completion. One particular challenge when developing the Scrapper camp and surrounding spaces was figuring out how to utilize such a large claim of space and make it engaging. We implemented many environmental storytelling elements including a Raptidon fighting pit where the player has the choice to release them to clear out the camp via the stealth route. I was also involved in the set dressing process for various roads around the region and also the large dig tunnel.
